My first draft has definitely strayed towards more of an alternate direction when directly compared to the first concept thumbnails. I had decided to start off incorporating a minimalistic black and white aesthetic similar to the examples I had researched. I also had to improvise on layout as I had to shift focus back to the typefaces themselves and see how I could present them in a way that still makes each spread distinct from each other. Since my topic was on typography in world football, I also took some additional research into each league's brand identity and their respective typeface's purposes. I identified visual patterns and trends which I tried to implement into the Zine design. Repetition and scale are a couple principles which I found to be the main design trends when it comes to displaying particular fonts. Overall, I am happy with this first draft in terms of layout. I am aiming to experiment with colour in a future draft before finalising the Zine design.
